So, for the past 5 years, I’ve been dealing with on and off neck pain. From injuries sustained while doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu to bad workouts in the gym to even just sleeping wrong on occasion. For a long time, I have had some amount of neck pain and this, well, it seemed to have helped stop it. This is the Tempur-Pedic Ergo neck pillow. Let’s talk about it.
Unboxing and Design
When I received the package for this pillow about a month ago, it came in this super simple box with just the pillow and nothing else inside of it. And as you see with this pillow, it does not have that standard bellow out kind of puffy look. No, this is a contour pillow with one side having a more pronounced protrusion or groove over the other. And since there was no manual in the box, I had to figure out which groove is the right one to use for me.
Finding the Best Sleeping Position
So, here’s what I found. I’m a back sleeper and I don’t tend to move very much. So, given that, the best position to use this pillow on is on the shallower side for me. This makes it so the pillow supports your neck in a more natural position while also not really jutting your head forward at all, so you don’t develop some sort of awkward like overusing your phone type of posture. It looks natural when you’re lying on it and feels comfortable. We’ll talk about comfort in a moment.
On the other hand, if you’re a side sleeper, you’ll want to use the deeper end, which supports your neck at a more natural angle while also not pushing it too far or making you feel uncomfortable. It’s hard to describe this accurately with words, but the pillow is just designed to make it so your standing posture is your sleeping one. At least the ideal posture and well, yeah, it does that well and honestly a bit too well.
Evaluating Comfort and Firmness
Let’s now talk about comfortability because this thing, I’m going to be honest, is really firm. Say what you will about firm pillows. Some folks like that, others don’t. But this one is, yeah, really firm. It has some give here and there when you squish it, but I don’t really feel as though the pillow has conformed to my head’s size just yet. I’m still probably breaking it in. It’s been a little while now, but again, I don’t move much when I sleep. But yeah, as someone who can really fall asleep anywhere and doesn’t worry too much about the comfort necessarily about a pillow, I really don’t have any qualms about this thing. But if you like something super plush like a Squish Malo or something, this is not that. This pillow is like a tool for your body and is solely focused on your head and neck health.
Health Benefits and Pain Relief
So then, how well does it do that? I’m going to be honest, pretty well, I’d say. I remember the second night after using this pillow, I pushed my neck back to a fully straightened out position. And usually what I’ll feel is some slight pain from the last time I practiced Brazilian jiu-jitsu and got injured about four months ago. But this time or that time, nothing. absolutely nothing. It was so bizarre.
Even just after a long workday or a day when I have my backpack on me all of the time, usually I’ll feel sore the next day for an extended period of time. But now, no, not much at all. It’s a bit jarring because I do still feel some pain. Like right now, if I push my neck back, there is some general neck muscle inflammation going on that is slowly lessening over time. But with this pillow, the pain itself is significantly reduced. It’s really noticeable.
Now, I don’t want you to think that this is magic or something like that, as though it will cure all of your muscle aches that you develop from injuries. No, those will need to heal on their own, especially over a prolonged period of time. I can attest to that, and I’ve experienced that time and time again. Well, what this does help you with is ensure that your neck doesn’t experience any more injuries while it’s healing.
Is It Worth the Price?
And for what it’s worth, yeah, I think this is a great buy. The only problem is the price. This is an expensive pillow. It has a price I never thought I’d pay for a bed accessory, especially as someone who is not particularly picky. But I’d say if you can afford one and really honestly need one for posture support or to prevent future injuries, the Tempur-Pedic Neck Pillow is a relieving buy.
Thanks for watching this short review of the Tempur-Pedic Neck Pillow. I hope to cover more things like this in the future. Some sort of health and wellness products because I actually like having these types of things such as premium bed accessories in my life. Maybe you would too. Either way, be sure to check out the affiliate links in the description. And without further ado, my name is Cirrus. It’s spelled like Cyrus, pronouncing sir rooster. Just take out the ter.
