Jounivo USB Microphone Review – A Great Budget-Friendly Microphone

This is one of the cheapest USB microphones money can buy. It retails for around $20 USD depending on the model, but is it actually worth it? Let’s talk about it. This is the Genevo USB condenser microphone.

Design and Features

It’s a goose neck mic, meaning it’s thin, flexible, and can be adjusted into different positions depending on your preference. Like many microphones, this one primarily captures sound from the front while minimizing pickup from the sides and rear. This can help reduce background noise, making it great for users who might record in less than quiet environments. However, for podcasts or multi-end setups, each speaker would likely need their own mic.

Taking a look at the exterior, this is the JV-601 variant, the most basic and budget-friendly version. There are a few other models on the Genevo’s Amazon store with slight feature differences.

Controls and Stability

This model features just one button: the mute switch. If something loud happens during your recording or you only need to speak at certain moments, you can quickly mute or unmute with a simple press. The LED indicator will be red when muted and green when not. On the bottom, there are simple anti-slip pads to keep it stable on your desk, but there’s no mount. If you prefer a stand-mounted mic, this might not be ideal for you.

Ease of Use and Compatibility

With that said, the microphone is all about simplicity. It’s truly a plug-and-play device. Speaking of plug-and-play, it connects via a standard USB-A cable and once plugged into your computer, it powers on instantly. No drivers or setup required.

In regards to compatibility, this microphone has worked with both my Mac and my Windows laptops with even some fascinating alleged support for a PlayStation 4 as well. Gamers are welcome.

Audio Quality Test

How does it actually sound? Well, I’ve been recording last video using this microphone the entire time For youtube channel and honestly it sounds pretty decent for the price. In comparison, here’s how it sounds against my other microphones:

  • This is my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

  • These are my AirPods 4s.

  • This is my MacBook Pro.

  • This is my Blue Yeti.

So yeah, it’s pretty good. One thing I think hasn’t been discussed online is how well this microphone performs in different recording environments. Here is the microphone with the fans blaring. This is in a bit of a more echoey environment. This place is loud. Here it is back in the recording room.

Accessories and Recommendations

For your budget microphone, there aren’t many accessories I’d recommend since adding too much defeats the simplicity factor. However, my Genevo mic did come with this attachable pop filter when I bought it. That’s pretty handy, so if you’re considering getting one like this, I’ve linked a similar pop filter down below in case your mic doesn’t include it.

Final Verdict

Is the Genevo USB condenser microphone worth it? I’d say yes, especially if you’re on a tighter budget. In fact, when I traveled this past year, I bought and brought this mic with me as a compact, travel-friendly option and it actually performs surprisingly well given the price.

If you’re an audiophile or need studio-level quality, you probably should check out other options. But for new content creators, remote workers, students, teachers, and anyone who needs an affordable plug-and-play mic, it’s a good buy.

Let me know your thoughts on this affordable device in the comment section down below. And without further ado, my name is Cyrus. It’s spelled like Cyrus, but that’s like C-u-s-e-r, just take out the T. Thank you very much for reading and have a wonderful day. Peace
