So over the past four years I’ve been rocking a 2019 MacBook Pro to its fullest potential studying writing and video editing with it all the time and it’s still kicking pretty well so let’s talk about what accessories I used with my Mac to maximize its potential.
The Essential External SSD
First the most essential purchase an external SSD. Now with that said all of these accessories are important with the latter ones being especially vital for incoming students in particular but an external SSD without a doubt is quite helpful for your MacBook because configuring Macs with more storage is incredibly expensive by Apple’s design. It’s not cheap not cheap at all to configure a MacBook with decent storage.
Now things have changed since I purchased this laptop and MacBooks are now starting with 256 gigabytes as opposed to 128 when I got this MacBook Pro which is better but still not great especially since some files you have in college can be pretty large and they accumulate really fast especially if you have multiple assignments. So I strongly recommend purchasing some sort of external SSD one that’s small enough to travel with and weatherproof enough to not worry about drops and potential water damage which will address a little later. But for the past four years and honestly for the foreseeable future I rock my SanDisk SSD it hasn’t caused me any issues and it has been super fast. This isn’t a sponsored article or anything but I’m grateful for this SSD but if you’re looking for something else here are some other good options as well.
Versatile USB Docks
Now let’s bring up another accessory that I use especially for this YouTube channel and also presentations and screen mirroring a USB dock. These things are Lifesavers especially if you need an HDMI or even just more USBS. I use mine with my microphone for this Channel and side note but if you’re interested in making videos or voiceovers an external microphone can definitely be a good accessory as well.
But going back to the USB dock if you have your protective case on your Mac like me or something like that I recommend purchasing one with a cord instead of one that sits flush on your Mac. In my case I got one that sits flush on the max Edge and then got an external cord so that could be an option as well but either way I having access to different ports like SD cards for video and photo editing with cameras is extremely helpful and nice to have on your Mac and of course more USBS is always a plus.
Headphones for Studying and Meetings
Now let’s talk about something that pretty much every student uses and at this point needs headphones. Admittedly I’ve collected a little bit of an assortment of headphones and earbuds over the years and yeah they’re super helpful for students myself included. Whether you’re studying in your room with a roommate in a library or just tuning out your class bruh headphones are super useful.
With a new dawn of virtual meetings and whatnot headphones can be great for privacy and better microphone quality in general. Frankly Speaking this is more dependent on your personal preference and budget but for most students airpods reign supreme on college campuses for their convenience and even the discount or bundle you get with your education Macbook so that’s something you should definitely consider as well. I don’t know if this is applicable this year but see if you can get airpods with your MacBook with the education discounts because there was something applicable after my year.
Protecting Your MacBook
Next we gotta protect that MacBook. I’ve got two types of protection the shell around the laptop and an external sleeve both of these are vital in my opinion.
Hard Shell Cases
Getting a good hard shell case is great for protecting against potential light drops scratches and whatnot for sure but they’re also great for ensuring that those don’t happen in the first place. The rubber grommets at the bottom of Max are not great and nearly all of the mags I’ve seen fall to their dads are because the student will just accidentally Slide the laptop off of the desk which is just awful to see. But if you get a case with good rubber grommets at the bottom that won’t happen and you only suffer a mild heartbeat skip after pushing your laptop just a centimeter forward after leaning on it too much.
External Sleeves
Moreover the sleeve I said this in my iPad accessory aritcle but I love putting my tech in sleeves. Mine is waterproof protective and cozy for my gear. It’s super practical and great to protect against the rain which because for most students you will travel a lot by foot in college you will encounter a bit of rain and will save you against those freak accidents for sure. It’s definitely an underrated accessory in my opinion so get a sleeve for that added protection.
And that was the list of all the MacBook accessories that I use with my laptop. I’ve had quite the journey with this thing and all of these add-ons have made it so much more versatile for me. So if you have any other suggestions leave them in the comments section down below. My name is Sears it’s about like Cyrus plastic sea rooster and just take out that’s her. Thank you very much for reading and have a wonderful day. Peace.
